Typographic poster design using lyrics from “Divide” by Bastille, a song on the Bands 3rd studio album Doom Days . It’s a song about the trials and tribulations one faces as outside forces seek to divide a relationship. I created this poster in a Typography class while studying at the University of Minnesota College of Design. The flowing text resembles that of the wind that the lyrics speak of and the colors representing the different feelings that are presented throughout the album Doom Days–From Love (Magenta) to Sadness (Blue), Serenity (Purple) to Excitement (Yellow), and Orange (Anxiety) to Bliss (Green).
The poster above is my first iteration of the piece. I received critiques on this piece that led to several iterations before I settled on the final piece.
In my changes, I tweaked the warping of the text and added some texture to the background. I opted to remove the shape around the “AS” because it felt out of place and did not unify with the rest of the poster. I also added a second typeface to the poster to separate the big, blocky letters.
